How to Make Simple Chocolate Fruit Dip
Ingredients and Substitutions:
Precise measurements and step-by-step instructions are in the printable recipe card at the end of this post. Photos of the process and substitutions are provided below.
Don’t forget to put on a cute apron—I am always covered in food and it makes me feel more domestic. If you already feel fine without it, that’s great. I always feel better looking the part!

- Heavy whipping cream– for an easier version, you can substitute Cool Whip, thawed.
- Cream Cheese– Don’t use the whipped version, it messes with the texture.
- Powdered Sugar– you can substitute with granulated sugar, but it will have a grittier texture. In that case, also use less sugar (1/2 to 3/4 cup).
- Chocolate Chips– Use semi-sweet, milk, or dark chocolate. You can even melt down chopped pieces of a chocolate bar or use chocolate melting wafers.
- Vanilla extract– I like vanilla extract in this recipe, but you can almond extract or coconut extract would both be delicious with the chocolate.
- Cinnamon– you can experiment with other spices in this dip. I always love adding cardamom (even with the cinnamon) or maybe a nutmeg.
Instructions:
Whip up the cream (If you are using Cool Whip, you can skip this step, just make sure your Cool Whip is not frozen). *Note—use a bigger bowl than I did. I knew it was a bad idea and used the smaller bowl anyway—and then I shot whipped cream all over the place.

With a hand mixer (which your really need if you are into dips like I am. It makes things SO MUCH EASIER), whip the cream cheese, powdered sugar and cinnamon. It will smell delicious when you whip in the cinnamon, but make sure you use a big enough bowl to handle the powdered sugar flying everywhere.

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave or in a double boiler. If you are using the microwave, heat for 30 seconds, stir, and heat for another 30 seconds. Put it back in 10 seconds at time until it is completely smooth.

Add the melted chocolate into the mixture and mix together with the hand mixer.

Fold in the whipped cream with a spatula.

Transfer it to a bowl and serve it with fruit, crackers, pretzels, or other fun dippers. I love this simple chocolate fruit dip with strawberries and apples. I can eat WAY TOO MUCH of it.

If you add mini chocolate chips on top—which makes it look fancy— you might dip a strawberry in and have it look like a cute little mouse.

Ideas for Serving Chocolate Fruit Dip in Different Settings

- Small Group Bible Study
Serve the chocolate fruit dip as a centerpiece on a tray surrounded by an assortment of fresh fruits like strawberries, apple slices, and pineapple chunks. Include gluten-free options like rice crackers, gluten-free pretzels and gingersnaps. - Movie Night with Friends
Upgrade your movie night (I’d recommend a Hallmark movie girls’ night) by offering the chocolate fruit dip with an assortment of dippable snacks like apple slices, pretzel rods, marshmallows, or even popcorn clusters for a sweet-and-salty twist. Set it out in an easy-to-reach spot so everyone can enjoy it during the film. Sharing snacks encourages a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. - Valentine’s Day Gathering
Whether it’s a Galentine’s celebration or a romantic evening, this dip is perfect for a Valentine’s theme. Arrange red fruits like raspberries, strawberries, and cherries around the dip for a festive touch. Add heart-shaped cookies or skewers for easy sharing. Try topping it with cinnamon candy hearts to “spice” it up a bit. - Potluck Setting
Transport the dip in a sealed container with a decorative serving dish and bring along a variety of pre-prepped dippers in individual bags or containers. Arrange everything on-site for a polished presentation. The dip’s versatility ensures it will accommodate a range of dietary needs, showing care for everyone at the gathering.
The Value of Connection
At the heart of these gatherings is the value of connection. Whether through a shared snack or meaningful conversation, taking time to gather fosters a sense of belonging and love. According to research by Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad, strong social connections can increase longevity and reduce feelings of loneliness. This draws attention to the importance of hospitality in our spiritual and social lives. We were designed for community.
Invite someone new over today. You never know how it can impact them—or you!

This dip is great with strawberries.
As you well know, hospitality is one of my gifts, and I love hosting friends and family. One of my favorite dips for fruit is this one:
Mascarpone cheese
Lemon curd
That’s all! Mix equal parts together. You can add grated lemon rind or lemon peel on top to decorate. YUMMM!
That sounds delicious! I’m putting that on my list of dips to try!
I love this! It’s like chocolate cheesecake, but dippable! Such a great one for Valentine’s Day!
